Welcome to the website of Grove Nanomaterials Ltd, a spin-off company from Swansea University (Nanomaterials Lab). Grove was launched on 1 March 2023 after 5 years of research in nanoparticle technology. Grove is a “deeptech-plus” company, based on a profound innovation with potential to service multiple markets in the long term (>5 years from launch), plus the prospect of revenue generation from years 3 and 4 of operation. The early stage revenue opportunity is in medical diagnostics, specifically, home and point-of-care lateral flow testing.

The red line in a Covid test, which signals the capture of a biological target molecule, is made of colloidal gold (i.e., soluble gold nanoparticles). Through control of quantum physics, Grove has invented a new generation of colloidal gold nanoparticles with multiple colours, suitable for multiplex detection of multiple biomarkers. Additional attractive properties include ease of “conjugation” (the binding of biomolecules to the nanoparticles). Moreover, the nanoparticles are fabricated (in our “Nanofactory” machine) by a physics-based, automated and environmentally-friendly fashion without need for harmful reducing agents or salts.

The underlying reason for the formation of Gold was to contribute to the industrial regeneration of South Wales, one of the poorest regions in the whole of Europe. This means establishing a thriving, commercially successful and fast growing company. Grove aims to reward it shareholders for their invaluable investments by the generation of revenues of four kinds:

A)      Sales of Grove colloidal nanoparticles (from year 3 or 4).

B)      Sales of lateral flow tests designed for home testing of allergies (from year 4 or 5).

C)     Sales of lateral flow tests for point-of-care testing of critical diseases (from year 5 or 6). 

D)     Applications of Grove’s materials in other sectors (from year 6 or 7).

At the time of writing (6 June 2025) we are 2 months into year 3. The large majority of our effort is focused on A) and B), but Grove also has R&D projects in areas C), especially, and D).

This website is primarily for investors, grant funders and B2B partners. As Grove achieves its objectives, the website will also host a retail shop for online customers.

We are known to be parsimonious in our use of resources, and especially jealous of our time - and yours, so this website is concise. We very much welcome substantial and detailed conversations with prospective investors, funders and business partners, as well as visits to our new Lab in Cardiff.
